It’s about to be the start of another school year which means your kids are getting older and growing like a weed. Nutritional meals are important for young, growing kids and Georgia Peanut Commission wanted to share a few back-to-school recipes for a quick and easy school lunch or afternoon snack. These recipes are focused on providing your kids with proper nutrition to keep them healthy and growing!

Peanuts contain protein, fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals, which are all important components of a young child’s diet. All those components play a large role in keeping your kid strong and growing. As kids grow, so do their protein needs. Peanuts contain more protein than any other nut, and, along with peanut butter, are recommended by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as a way to help kids meet those needs.  Protein in a kid’s diet is essential because it promotes brain development, muscle growth, bone formation, and immune system development.

Peanuts and peanut butter can also help support a healthy mind! Peanuts have B vitamins in them which promotes proper brain function. Niacin is also a vitamin found in peanuts and is known for a lowered rate in cognitive decline. Studies also found that consuming peanuts and peanut butter on a regular basis helps manage kids’ weight, heart, and even lower risk for diabetes in the future.

Peanuts are also an inexpensive way to feed your kids and most times a popular and easy snack when kids run to the pantry.  Peanuts are an all-around versatile and fun snack during those busy school nights. So, when it comes to your snack time selection, they’re one pick that kids and adults can definitely agree on.
