Jones Brothers Farms receive Outstanding Georgia Peanut Farmer of the Year Award for District 2

TIFTON, Ga – Jones Brothers Farms, Chula, Georgia, received the Outstanding Georgia Peanut Farmer of the Year Award for District 2 at the 49th annual Georgia Peanut Farm Show and Conference, Jan. 15, 2026, at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus Conference Center, Tifton, Georgia. The award is sponsored by the Georgia Peanut Commission and Agri Supply.

The Georgia Peanut Commission presents the Outstanding Georgia Peanut Farmer of the Year award to one farmer in each of the commission’s five districts. This award is designed to honor farmers who have given life-long devotion to peanut farming and who have the passion, diligence, leadership and desire to see that the peanut industry in the state of Georgia continues to represent the highest quality possible.

Jones Brothers Farms was started in 1964 by Derris and Larry Jones. In 1997, Derris and his wife Patricia, died as a result of an accident. Today, the farming operation includes Derrick and Dalton Jones and includes 1,200 acres of peanuts, corn, wheat and hay, along with beef cattle.

The Jones family have a strong history in supporting agriculture. They are co-owners of Chula Peanut & Grain and an original founding board member of Tifton Quality Peanuts. Derris served the Farm Service Agency on the county committee for 20 years and was a charter member of Young Farmer’s Association. Derrick has served on the Tiftarea Academy Board of Trustees for 16 years and 3 years as chairman. Derrick serves as an advisory board member for the Tift County Extension.

Additional district winners include District 1 – Willard Mims, Donalsonville; District 3 – Carl Hood, Midville; District 4 – Keith Moore, Cordele; and District 5 – Rodney Locke, Dawson. These farmers received a sign to display at their farm and gift cards from Agri Supply and the Georgia Peanut Commission.
